overview
Collage of web pagesThis course provides an introduction to web page development using various application software tools, featuring Adobe Dreamweaver CS3. Students will learn a broad range of industry standard tools and techniques to create and develop sites on the World Wide Web.

Creating a website from beginning to end will include design, writing, storyboarding, photography, interactivity, illustrating and other multimedia tasks. In addition to web page authoring, students will learn web site planning, basic HTML, design principles. image editing software, graphic preparation, FTP tools, browser testing, workflow techniques and best practices for web site production.

design
Students will be required to use their logical and analytical skills to develop web site flow and link design. Exploring the web for examples of good design, the student will become familiar with how the creative process evolves and how to discover his/her own design style and preferences.
presentation
Each student will be responsible for communicating the progress of their website development with the entire class, including a web site proposal and production updates at least twice during the semester.

Students will be pitch their design ideas, communicate their production process, document their projects, and demonstrate an understanding of the technical aspects of web site design and production.

Project critiques will be given to each student to coincide with the completion of the student's final project. The final project will require the student to create, post and demonstrate a fully functioning web site.

production
Wacom tabletThe class will concentrate on software tools necessary to build a successful web site. Applications to be covered include Photoshop, Dreamweaver and Imageready in a Microsoft Windows XP environment. Scanning and custom creation of images will be emphasized. Homework and project milestones are due at the beginning of each class meeting.
meetings
Class will meet every Monday evening at the Warwick campus in Room 2060 except when altered by the college schedule.
attendance
Students are expected to attend every class meeting. Important concepts will be provided each week and it will be impossible for the student to repeat any of the sessions. Absence from class will affect the student's grade in a negatively. More than 2 absences will result in a letter grade reduction.
due dates
Projects and homework is due as outlined in the course schedule. Students are expected to complete work on time. Late work will result in a reduced grade. Students are expected to work outside of class time.

Instructor reserves the right to raise or lower grades depending on student attitude, effort, and other variables.
